THE results of a post mortem examination conducted by a Home Office pathologist today (Friday) will determine whether police will prosecute a 56–year–old man in connection with the death of a baby girl.
The baby, who is believed to have been a newborn, was found dead at a house on Statham Avenue, in Orford, on Tuesday.
She was discovered by officers who had attended the house following the hospital admission of a 35–year–old woman who had complained of abdominal pain and significant blood loss.
She had collapsed at around 3pm at the bus station, where she had been waiting for a bus to take her to Warrington Hospital.
The woman, who it is understood had recently given birth, was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and was admitted to the high dependancy unit.
She has since had two operations and is described as being poorly but stable.
Because of her condition she will not be interviewed by police for a few days.
The post mortem examination, which will take place later this morning, will ascertain the age of the baby, her cause of death and whether she was alive at birth.
The results will not be known until Monday and will determine where the police go next with their investigation.
A police spokesman said: “The 56–year–old man from Warrington was arrested in connection with this matter and has been bailed pending further medical and police inquiries.”
