THE driver of a trailer that contained leaking mercury had to be taken to hospital after touching the chemical.
Fire crews from Birchwood and Warrington and the hazardous materials unit were called to Risley early this morning to reports of a spillage, believed to be mercury.
When they arrived, at 4.40am, they found a small package in a trailer unit of a truck that contained mercury.
They secured the unit and contained the spillage within the vehicle before passing the incident on to the Environment Agency.
The spillage was at Clayton Road in Risley.
