A SECURE hospital that houses people sectioned under the mental health act has reopened in Winwick.

Arbury Court is located on the old Delph Park Hospital site. It is a medium and low secure hospital for men and women.

On Tuesday the new buildings were officially unveiled.

The Gregory Building, named in memory of Warrington Wolves hero Mike Gregory, will have 30 beds for medium security male patients. His widow Erica and parents attended the opening ceremony of the unit on Tuesday.

The Macarthur House, named after Dame Ellen Macarthur, will house 44 beds for medium and low risk female patients.

There is also a training centre featuring a lecture theatre, group rooms and physical training areas.

“There is a sustained demand for secure services for men and women which we are able to help meet,” said Fred Sinclair-Brown, group chief executive of Partnerships in Care, who owns the hospital.

The hospital was opened by the Government’s National Director for Mental Health, Professor Louis Appleby .

There are multiple security measures in place to ensure the safety of nearby residents.
