CSOs are out and about to spread the message

THE pedometers had not yet arrived, but that couldn’t curb the enthusiasm of the CSOs at the Cockhedge Centre, as they publicised their ‘Twin Town’ walking challenge.

The event, held last Friday, was the first in a series aiming to raise awareness of the work of CSOs.

Officers were on hand to offer useful tips on crime prevention as well as giving out freebies including UV pens to mark property and anti-burglary stickers.

Inspector Richard Reeves, head of Warrington Town Centre NPU, praised the positive response of the public.

He said: “People keep asking, ‘when will you be doing this again’, and seem to really appreciate the advice we’re giving.”

He added: “We hope to hold events on a fortnightly basis, at other locations across the town centre. They will be similar to today and people can come to track the team’s progress in the walking challenge.”

Though the reaction was largely encouraging, some criticised the efforts as a publicity stunt.

Laura Brown, of Great Sankey, said she appreciated the crime prevention advice but described the lack of a CSO presence in her area as ‘completely unacceptable’.
