A SECURITY guard delivering money was robbed at machete point at Birchwood Shopping Centre this afternoon.
The security guard was dropping off a cash box for an ATM machine in the centre when he was attacked outside Carphone Warehouse by two men, one of whom was wielding a machete.
Both robbers were dressed in black and wearing balaclavas.
He was knocked to the ground and threatened with force to surrender the box, which contained a large sum of money.
The security guard was not attacked by the machete but was treated for bruises and minor injuries at Warrington Hospital.
The men escaped in a silver Audi A4 car, driven behind Birchwood Shopping Centre to a nearby tennis centre where they opened the cash box and some of the notes, which were marked, blew away.
A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for any witnesses who saw a silver Audi parked in the shopping centre car park with three men on board or anybody who witnessed any part of the incident.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Gordon Wilson at Warrington Specialist Investigation Unit on 01244 615842 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
