Detectives in Stoke-on-Trent are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a petrol station in the city.

An offender entered Crystal petrol station on Scotia Road, Tunstall, around 9pm last night, Monday August 11.

The man, who wore a blue and white helmet, demanded cash off the female cashier.

He threatened her with a weapon, believed to be an axe.

She handed over a quantity of cash before the man left the petrol station and got on to the back of a motorbike, being ridden by a second offender, on the corner by Netto supermarket.

The woman was left extremely shaken by the incident, but uninjured.

The robbery occurred around the time she was closing the petrol station.

Officers have launched an investigation into the incident, and are studying CCTV from the petrol station and nearby premises.

The offender was white and wearing black Adidas tracksuit bottoms with stripes on the sides, an Umbro waterproof jacket, which was grey at the bottom, and white trainers.

His helmet was a blue, white and black Moto-X helmet, with a full face piece.

DS Rob Taylor, from Stoke-on-Trent CID, is urging anyone with information on the robbery to come forward.

“This was a serious incident involving a weapon, and the offenders need to be caught as soon as possible,” he said.

“The cashier was left very upset by the incident, but fortunately was not injured.

“Scotia Road is a busy road in and out of the city centre.

“I would appeal for anyone who was in the vicinity of the petrol station around 9pm, and saw anything suspicious, to come forward.”

Anyone with information should contact Stoke-on-Trent CID on 08453 302010 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
