CONGLETON Park visitors will be taking a rest on new seating inspired by a fern unfolding.

The design was the favourite in a public vote on a proposed seating area for the park.

The poll attracted a total of 267 votes, and the winning design reflects the Victorian passion for ferns, which are still grown in the park.

“I’m really pleased this design has been chosen,” said Su Hurrell, who designed the proposed seating area.

“It will bring a unique piece of work to the park to complement the adjacent totem poles, and it is also my favourite design.”

Borough parks and open spaces officer Roger Leverett said there had been a positive public response to the seating proposals.

“Everyone is looking forward to seeing the chosen design installed,” he said.

The seating area is due to be installed by the end of October.
