THREE up and coming bands will rock Milton Gardens this Friday, August 15, in the second of three free open air concerts.

The first of the Alsager Rocks concerts was held on Friday, and was hailed a great success by the police, who organised the shows.

About 400 people of all ages came along to the show, which ran for three hours.

“It was good to see a real mix of ages,” said Police Community Support Officer Helen Harrison.

“Not only teenagers came, but parents and grandparents - people got together and had a great time.”

The concerts are designed to give young people something to do in the evening.

“Last year we spent evenings seizing alcohol from groups of up to 100 teenagers in the park,” said Helen.

“Some of them were getting seriously drunk, which is a recipe for trouble.

“The Alsager Rocks concerts are part of our efforts to deal with this issue.

“If young people wanted to bring soft drinks in that was fine, and we provided free bottles of water, which seemed to go down very well.”

The concerts run on three consecutive Friday evenings, from 7pm to 10pm.

The second concert, this Friday, features We Fly Spitfires, The Flares and Synderisis.

The final show, next Friday, August 22, features Point Blank, The Skimps and Amber Rising.

No-one is admitted without a ticket, which are available at Alsager Library, Alsager One Stop Shop and a number of local shops.

The concerts end promptly at 10pm in consideration for people living near the park.
