A 27-YEAR-OLD who dreamt of becoming a police officer has been jailed after being found in possession of the most disturbing child pornography available.
The illegal pictures were found on Matthew Oliver’s computer when his home in Wednesbury Drive, Great Sankey, which he shared with his father and brother, was searched after serious allegations were made against his father, Thomas.
“You had the opportunity of accepting responsibility and you haven’t. You deliberately searched this material. I don’t take the view that a supervision order is viable.”
Judge David Hale
Simon Medland, prosecuting, said that police discovered a catalogue of more than 80 pictures ranging in severity from level one to five, the most graphic.
Investigators initially thought that the pictures belonged to his father, Thomas, due to a complaint made by a victim, but a search history of job recruitment sites and the username Matt identified Oliver junior.
One of the charges related to a video being made of a stream of 1,056 images of a girl being abused.
Searches for ‘family incest’ and ‘pre-teen’ were found to have been entered on his computer.
Many other files that had been deleted were unrecoverable but the names suggested they were also illegal.
He was arrested on November 15. On July 5 he pleaded guilty to the 10 counts of making indecent photographs and one count of possessing images.
Robert Golinski, defending Oliver, said that the defendant accepted looking for pornography but not child pornography. He also accepted the responsibility for some of the key searches found.”
Judge David Hale said: “I see no evidence that he feels guilty, he accepted the advice of the experts.
“You had the opportunity of accepting responsibility and you haven’t. You deliberately searched this material. I don’t take the view that a supervision order is viable.”
Oliver was handed a six-month custodial sentence with each of the counts running concurrently.
The custodial sentence comes six days after his father, aged 68, was ordered to complete a three-year supervision order and sign the sex offenders’ register for five years after being found guilty of possessing indecent images.
