Illegal workers arrested in Orford takeaway raid

TWO illegal workers were arrested in Orford last night, Wednesday, following a raid by border officials.

The pair, a Chinese failed asylum seeker and a Malaysian man in breach of his visa, were arrested following a visit to the Wok Inn at Concorde Place on Poplars Avenue.

A notice of potential liability was also served against the owner of the business for employing someone without the right to work.

The owner of the business could face a fine of up to £10,000 per employee. The agency’s civil penalties department are now dealing with the case and the men remain iin custody.

Chief immigration officer for Wirral and Cheshire, Pat Johnstone said, “Acting on information received we carried out an operation in Warrington which has helped us to get the message across to businesses and the public that we will not tolerate illegal working and will take action against those believed to be responsible.

“Businesses now face fines of up to £10,000 per illegal employee. By issuing these fines our message is loud and clear, we will not tolerate this type of abuse and will take action against those responsible.”
