Mindless attack

A MAN has spoken of his distress after he was punched in the head by an unknown attacker as he walked along Bridge Street on Saturday afternoon.

The 28-year-old, who wishes to be known only as Daniel, was approached and hit on the head several times by a man.

“We can assure the person in question that this incident will be fully investigated and we will do all we can to bring the offender to justice.”

Chief Inspector Nick Bailey

The man knocked Daniel’s glasses off his face with the first punch and stamped on them, leaving his victim struggling to see.

Daniel said: “I was walking home from work and some random guy I had never seen before walked towards me and started punching me in the head.

“There must have been around 50 people there and some were shouting at him to get off.

“I am astounded that an innocent person can be attacked for no reason in daylight in the middle of a busy shopping area.”

Daniel suffered a black eye and bruises to his face and head in the attack, which happened near the HSBC bank around 3.50pm.

His attacker is thought to be in his mid to late 20s and is described as between 5ft 10ins to 6ft tall, of slim build with cropped, dark ginger hair. He was wearing a light, multi-coloured tracksuit.

Daniel added: “I was really shaken up. I can’t believe that someone would walk up to you on a Saturday afternoon and punch you. I really hope he gets caught.”

Chief Inspector Nick Bailey said: “We are currently pursuing all lines of enquiry. We take all allegations of crime extremely seriously and carry out the relevant investigations thoroughly and professionally.

“We can assure the person in question that this incident will be fully investigated and we will do all we can to bring the offender to justice.”

Anyone who witnessed the attack or has information that might assist police with their enquiries should contact PC Kate Middleton, of Warrington Town Centre NPU, on 0845 4580000.

Allegations of crime? This WAS a crime, witnessed by around fifty people. Can someone give himself a black eye and report it as an alleged crime?
