PET owners can now learn how to give their animals the kiss of life thanks to specialist workshops being offered in Daresbury.

Lorraine Duffy, a former head veterinary nurse, launched Pet Education 4 U after seeing a gap in the market for an educational service aimed at pet owners and pet care professionals to learn more about the health and welfare of animals.

Lorraine, aged 42, from Sandymoor, said: “I am very concerned about the amount of negative publicity animals are currently receiving, especially dogs, which I think stems from people not understanding how to look after their pets.

“I started the business after being frustrated by the lack of facilities out there for people to just drop in and learn about pet care.

“College courses are very binding and can cost up to £1,000.”

Lorraine, who is also a lecturer in animal care, added: “I invested in a professional canine mannequin from the States so pet owners can learn how to give their dogs CPR and people who have attended my workshops come away with so much confidence in how to look after their pets.

“I have had lots of people from all over the country contact me interested to hear more about the workshops I am offering.”

The workshops cover a variety of subjects concerning animal health and welfare, including how to administer tablets, first aid, clinical nutrition, wounds and dressings and information for new pet owners.

Lorraine launched the business, the only one of its kind in the north, in January and has recently been developing the workshops to include canine anatomy and physiology as well as parasitology.

The next pet first aid workshop, costing £45, is on Saturday from 10am to 4pm at the Parish Room next to the Ring O’Bells pub on Chester Road.
