THE jobs of more than 60 warehouse workers at MFI in Appleton have fallen victim to the struggling economic climate.
The national home retailer informed its employees at the home delivery centre warehouse on Monday that their jobs were under review.
One employee, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “We knew the company had not been trading as it should be.
“There are five home delivery centres in all but we are the one that has been chosen.”
He added: “I was taken aback at first but like in most cases of redundancies you have to take it in your stride and get on with it but there are quite a few disgruntled people.”
A spokesman for MFI Retail Ltd said the company started a 30–day period of consultation with employees at its home delivery centre warehouse on Monday regarding a proposed reduction in jobs.
She added: “The proposed changes are part of MFI’s long term business turnaround strategy, which focuses on improving cost control and efficiency.
“75 employees in Warrington all working within the warehouse are affected by this consultation. MFI plans to retain 13 of these roles.
“MFI Retail’s stores in the North West region are unaffected by this decision.”
