THE M6 is reopen southbound between Lymm and Knutsford following a serious accident.

And officials are expecting to open two lanes of the northbound carriageway soon.

The accident happened at 3.30pm when a lorry jack-knifed into a bridge.

It was thought the road would be closed into the evening but the damage is not as bad as thought.

The third lane is likely to be closed for sometime while the barrier is repaired.

Highways officials are still warning motorists to avoid the area to allow jams to clear.
