Officers seize fake boots

OFFICERS have seized fake designer boots with a street value of £32,000 during a raid in Lymm.

Trading standards officials from Warrington Borough Council and officers from Cheshire Police recovered 450 pairs of the counterfeit Ugg boots from an address in Lymm.

And according to Clr Roy Smith, executive member for community services, there is a big worry about the sale of counterfeit goods.

He added: “The seizure of counterfeit Ugg boots in Lymm is a great example of our partnership work with the police and our joint fight against counterfeit goods.

“Not only is the public being duped but legitimate traders are being adversely affected because they are losing trade to fraudsters.

“We ask the public to pass on, in confidence, any information they have about sellers of counterfeit goods.

“At best, counterfeit goods are poor quality.

“At their worst they have proved lethal.

“We intend to carry on combating the sale of counterfeits.”

A spokesman for trading standards said fake goods accounts for nine per cent of world trade and that money made from the sale of such goods is often used to fund other crimes such as drugs or loan sharking.
