FROM carpets to combating terror, the leap is easy for Conrad Jones.

Little more than a year ago the 43-year-old was a self-employed carpet cleaner, but when he had his equipment stolen from his van while on holiday in America, he took the life-changing decision to follow his dream and write a book.

And now, in only 12 months, he has completed a trilogy of books based around lead character John Tankersley and the Terrorist Task Force called Soft Target.

Mr Jones said: “The second book was published last week and the third is at the publishers.

“I finished the three books in 12 months. It is probably deceiving because I am writing about the same characters so it’s like one long book.”

Mr Jones, from Orford Green, became interested in terrorism after seeing first hand its devastating effects.

He was working as the manager at McDonald’s on Bridge Street on the day of the Warrington bombing in 1993.

Since he gave up his career as a carpet cleaner, life has changed from appointments with clients to book signings in Manchester, Liverpool and Warrington.

“I took my mum with me, she’s my biggest fan,” added Mr Jones.

And his popularity across the pond will see him jet out to Florida in September on a book signing tour.

His publishers Authorhouse have also nominated him for the Silver Awards in the US, which the author says is a great honour for a debut novelist.

His books have reached a wide audience and have received rave reviews on book selling websites.

And after a short break for his birthday, Mr Jones will be back to work tomorrow, Friday, to start writing the fourth book in the series that he now expects to span three more editions.

Mr Jones concluded: “Four is pretty much written in my head.

“Because people like the character and the task force plot so I am going to keep writing about them. The recipe for these books is so good it is just easy to keep going. ”

His second book Soft Target II – Tank is on sale now.
