TAYLOR was caught after he had his victim’s house burgled to get out of a fictitious holiday with her.
He and his then fiancee were due to fly to Switzerland on December 27, 2006.
He insisted they go out on Boxing Day night and on their return the house had been burgled and their holiday documents stolen.
DC Stuart Eales and his team were called out to investigate the burglary.
“He talked some nonsense and made some comments about understanding police procedure,” DC Eales said.
Eventually the woman became suspicious and went to Stockton Heath police station to tell the force of her doubts.
It was there that a quick thinking officer put two and two together and realised Taylor and Franks were the same man.
“Then we were able to access his history and found out he was in fact on bail in Nottingham,” said DC Eales.
Taylor was arrested in Birchwood after police set up surveillance to catch him.
“After her identification it was just a case of good, hard police work,” he said.
“We can all be vulnerable, we’ve all got our trusting sides. People become targets, the kind of people who want to believe that what you are telling them is the truth,” he said.
“That is exactly what he did.”
