Penketh drama teacher gets judges dancing on Britain's Got Talent

Andrew Curphey won a place in the next round with an energetic medley of ‘Lost in Music’, ‘We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off’ and ‘Burn, Baby, Burn!’.

Bruno Toniolo was dancing along with the audience who were all grooving, clapping and cheering.

The Widnes performing arts enthusiast has hundreds of pupils across Cheshire including The Olive Tree in Penketh, Halton and Frodsham.

Wearing a gold jacket and black bow tie, the 37-year-old told millions of viewers on ITVX last night : “I always tell the children to push themselves completely out of their comfort zone and take every opportunity.

“I’m practising what I preach, standing here live on TV in front of Simon Cowell!”

He then vanished from the stage and proceeded to introduce himself from the wings, before dashing back on with a storming performance, accompanied by two backing singers.

Simon said: “I’m actually speechless. You did such a good job. I love your enthusiasm.”

Bruno retorted: “I am speechless, great great fun.”

Amanda Holden said: “That was such high camp, I absolutely loved it.

“How lucky are the children to have a teacher like you.”

As well as teaching classes, directing productions and managing his own theatre company, Andrew regularly performs himself at The Brindley theatre in one-man shows and panto.

The gifted teacher, performer and entertainer even met the Queen when she opened the Mersey Gateway bridge.

He organised a performance with local children based on all of the different crossings over the Mersey from little boats to the Widnes-Runcorn Transporter Bridge, the Silver Jubilee Bridge and The Mersey Gateway.

Afterwards, Andrew said: “The Queen said it was lovely to see the children perform and she was really lovely.

“It was one of those ‘pinch me’ moments where a local lad got to meet the Queen.”
