SHOCKING speeds of 75mph were hit on a country lane in South Warrington which has a speed limit of 40mph.
Hatton, Stretton, and Walton Police installed speed indicator devices (SID) in two areas following concerns raised by local residents.
The first SID was deployed on London Road between The Cat and Lion and Owen’s Corner from July 23 to August 2.
This stretch between Stretton and Appleton has a 40mph speed limit.
During this period, 13,785 vehicles were recorded passing the device.
The highest speed recorded was 67mph, with an average speed of 36mph.
This means 17.7 per cent of vehicles were travelling in excess of the speed limit.
The second location the SID was deployed on was Warrington Road between Park Lane and Hatton Village – which also has a speed limit of 40mph.
It was in place from July 23 to August 1.
During this period, the highest speed recorded was 75mph – nearly double the limit.
The average vehicle speed was 39mph.
The results show that 46 per cent of vehicles were recorded travelling in excess of the 40mph speed limit.
