Modern take on Shakespeare classic

2:14pm Thursday 22nd May 2008

AWARD-WINNING actors are to stage a modern take on a Shakespearean classic at a summer festival.

The Biddulph Youth Theatre Experience, known as BYTE for short - is taking part in the Biddulph Ferstival in July.

The fledgling group will be performing Much Ado About Clubbing, based on Much Ado About Nothing by William Shaespeare.

The company is putting on the show on July 25 and 26.

BYTE was recently hailed as the Arts Group of the Year at the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council Arts Awards.

It is the brainchild of Police Community Support Officers Karen Linton and Steve Powell, and was launched in March 2007 to give local youngsters an insight into the world of theatre.

The group's most recent production, We'll Meet Again, a World War Two review, attracted more than 200 people to two performances, and was hailed a great success.

"Our recent production saw 32 youngsters taking part each night," said PCSO Steve Powell.

"This number looks set to increase, as we have taken on further new members since the completion of the show.

"The theatre company seems to be going from strength to strength.

"It continues to welcome new members, and is always looking for anyone to give whatever support they can."

BYTE offers its members a choice of numerous roles within the company, from directing and stage management to acting and make-up.

The group meets every Thursday at 7pm at Biddulph Town Hall.

Everyone is welcome to come along and join the company, and registration is free.
