Rhyl Coasters 12 Widnes Saints 36.
WIDNES Saints secured their first win against a determined Rhyl side in the Rugby League Conference North West Division.
John Lepts sent out a long pass for Mike Fairclough to score the opening try.
Plucky Rhyl hammered away and were rewarded after 20 minutes when the hooker squeezed over between the sticks.
They increased their lead to eight points straight from the kick off, taking the high ball and going the length of the field to score.
Saints hit back after a Fairclough mazy run earned a penalty, with Paul Whitley taking the ball in before freeing Mike Allen to score and narrow the gap to four points.
The score stayed the same until half time thanks to sterling defence from Bailey, John Cuerden and Craig Duggan.
Straight from the re-start Saints drew level.
Rhyl knocked on from the kick off before Gill drove in and fed Adam Middleton to score.
Allen scored his second after a cross-field move involving Stuart Harland, Craig Dourley and Craig Millington.
Millington again turned provider when his astute chip kick was collected by Chris Fenlon to score the first of his two.
Faced by eight defenders, he forced his way over between the sticks giving Harland an easy conversion.
Jamie Edge scored when put through by Millington, who provided the pass for Whitley to power over for a Danny Prendergast converted try.
Fenlon completed the scoring when he got on the end of a long Millington pass to go over out wide.
