Bogus official steals from pensioner

11:05am Wednesday 21st May 2008

A MAN posing as a utility worker stole cash and jewellery after duping a pensioner in Latchford.

The attacker, claiming to be working for the water board, forced his way into the home of the 75-year-old on Thelwall Lane at 5pm on Friday.

She asked for his identification, but police say he distracted her and got in, saying that the water needed turning off.

While there he again distracted her by fiddling with the taps and the toilet before stealing the cash and jewellery.

He was spotted later in Thelwall Lane and Nook Lane.

Police say the man was white, in his 30s or 40s, around 5ft 9ins, 5ft 10ins, and has a stocky build.

He was bald and had a local accent and wore jeans, a t shirt and black gloves.

Anyone with information should call DC Stuart Eales on 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
