Vale can't deliver on promise

2:48pm Monday 19th May 2008

Winsford 97-2

Bowdon Vale 96 all outBOWDON Vale failed to build on early promise at Winsford as they slumped to an eight-wicket defeat.

Damp and dismal conditions welcomed them at Winsford. Skipper Nigel Halsall elected to bat first on winning the toss, but once again a couple of partnerships failed to develop from promising starts.

Jack Halsall continued his fine start to the season with 29 supported by Nigel Halsall with 17 and Steve Bottomley 16. Beswick (3-24) was the pick of the Winsford bowling.

In reply Barratt, Cooper and Clarke comfortably took the home side past the Vale total with overs to spare.

An early afternoon downpour put paid to any chance of play at Priory Street where the second XI were due to entertain newcomers Stockport, the match abandoned without a ball being bowled.
