CONGLETON and Alsager parents are being asked for their views on a multi-million pound primary school investment in Cheshire.

Cheshire County Council is eligible for a massive cash injection under the Government's national primary capital strategy.

The aim is to help schools meet the demands of the 21st century curriculum.

The funding amounts to more than £14 million between 2009 and 2011, and a further £4 million for each of the following 12 years.

The council is now asking parents and other interested parties for their views about how the investment might be spent.

"This programme is a unique opportunity to help us build on the substantial inverstment already being made in our primary schools," said executive member David Rowlands.

"We want to hear the opinions of parents and other interested parties to ensure we have a broad range of views to help shape the future of primary education ascros Cheshire.

"Cheshire is one of England's largest rural counties, with 275 primary schools.

"Our aim is to deliver a capital strategy which addresses the diverse needs of both our rural and urban primary schools."

The authority will prepare a strategy for each of the two unitary councils for Cheshire, which will take over from the county council in April 2009.

Over the 14-year period the Government expects five per cent of schools in the poorest condition to be rebullt, and at least 45 per cent of primary schools to be substantially refurbished.
