THE new Vale Royal Mayor is hoping to unite communities during his year of office.
Clr Malcolm Gaskill is looking forward to his role as the first citizen of the borough after being invested during the borough council's annual meeting on Thursday.
It is an honour for me to be The Mayor of Vale Royal.

His wife Jo will be his Mayoress.
He said: "It is an honour for me to be The Mayor of Vale Royal. My theme for the year is uniting communities and I am looking forward to spending even more time getting to know the borough's residents.
"My main charity will be The Salvation Army. This is a marvellous organisation that does so much work for the community, which is often not seen, from running a day care centre for the elderly to spending Christmas Day cooking lunch for people who would otherwise be on their own.
"I have also chosen to continue supporting The Joshua Tree as one of my charities, following on from Clr Shingler last year.
"It's a fabulous charity striving to provide a holiday house and support centre for courageous kids with terminal illnesses and their families."
Malcolm has been the ward councillor for the Swanlow Ward in Winsford since 1999 and was deputy leader of Vale Royal Borough Council from 2003 to 2007.
He was chairman of Winsford United FC during its most successful period, from 1989 to 1992.
He is currently a governor of Greenfields Primary School in Winsford.
Clr Gillian Fairhurst was installed as the Deputy Mayor of Vale Royal. Her husband, Paul William Crisby, will be her consort.
