5:09pm Tuesday 13th May 2008

A YOUNG WOMAN who died from stab wounds has been formally identified as Sarah Richardson, aged 26.

Mrs Richardson, whose maiden name was Boote, was found dead at her home address in Lyndhurst Drive, Biddulph, on Monday morning.

The scene remains cordoned off for forensic examination.

A 41-year-old man from north Staffordshire, who had been under arrest at Leighton Hospital near Crewe, was taken at lunchtime today to the police custody centre in Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, where he is expected to be questioned this evening.

The man was arrested on suspicion of murder, and a post-mortem examination established that Mrs Richardson died from multiple stab wounds.

Chf Insp Carl Brookes of North Staffordshire division said: "Our thoughts remain with Sarah's family at this very difficult time, and we have specially-trained family liaison officers giving them all the support we can.

"The investigation team are keen to hear as soon as possible from anyone who knew Sarah who might have information about her death, or which could help the inquiry."
