A MAN was left fighting for his life after a stabbing outside a Cuddington pub on Friday.

John McKenna was wounded in his abdomen and left arm at the White Barn in Forest Road at 11.13pm.

A witness, who did not wish to be named, has known Mr McKenna for three years and said she could not believe what had happened.

She said: "It was horrible, really scary, the noises you could hear, the screams and stuff.

"It was a very busy night and it was horrible. It was absolutely the last thing I expected.

"It's just a local pub, you don't expect that kind of thing to happen."

The victim was taken to Leighton Hospital where he is now said to be in a stable condition.

The area manager of the White Barn, Jason Flexen, has wished him a speedy recovery.

He said: "We are extremely upset by what has happened and we are currently helping the police with their enquiries. Providing a safe environment for our customers is of paramount importance, and I would like to stress that this is a safe, family-friendly pub.

"Our staff acted quickly and professionally and alerted the police to the incident as soon as possible.

"We hope John makes a full and speedy recovery."

A police spokesman added: "There were a large number of people in the pub at the time and some have come forward to help us with our inquiries but if anyone else has any information, they can contact us on 0845 458 0000."

l A 23-year-old man from Cuddington has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of John McKenna. His case was adjourned to Chester Crown Court on Tuesday.
