Young woman found dead in Biddulph

DETECTIVES are investigating the death of a young woman whose body was found at a bungalow in Biddulph this morning.

At around 9am officers attended an address in Lyndhurst Drive, Brown Lees.

The body of a woman believed to be in her mid-20s was discovered inside the property - a bungalow - and the scene was sealed off.

The death is being treated as suspicious, and the corner has been informed.

A Home Office pathologist and experts from the Forensic Science Service are due to visit the scene this afternoon, and a post mortem examination will take place this evening.

Some relatives of the woman found dead have already been informed, but her name will not be released until she has been formally identified.

Detectives, uniformed officers and members of the police scientific support team remain at the address, and officers have been making house-to-house inquiries in the local area.

Police attended the address following a call from officers in Cheshire who, a short time earlier, had been called to an area of Congleton where a man believed to be in his early 40s had been found injured.

He is being treated at Leighton Hospital in Cheshire, where his condition this afternoon is said to be comfortable.

Staffordshire Police officers are at the hospital.

Chf Insp Carl Brookes, of North Staffordshire division, said: "This is something which has obviously come as a great shock to the family concerned.

"Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time, and we will be supporting them closely.

"Incidents such as this are extremely rare. Although still at an early stage, the investigation is progressing well.

"We will be keeping people who live locally updated, and would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to the officers who will be in the area over the next few days."

The death is being investigated by a team of detectives based in an incident room at Water Street in Newcastle.
