A YOUNG Crewe man, who lost his life in a motorcycle accident, was about to move into his first home with his girlfriend.

Damion Paul Smith, aged 20, of Shavington, died in a tragic accident while riding his newly-purchased high-powered motorbike last week.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to the collision, which happened at around 3pm on Saturday May 3 on the B5071 Crewe Road near to Shavington Working Men's Club.

A Police spokesman said: "Mr Smith rode his orange coloured Kawasaki ZX 600 Ninja motor cycle along Weston Road into Shavington before making a left turn at the junction with Crewe Road and proceeding along Crewe Road into the main part of the village in the direction of Wybunbury.

"A short distance further on Mr Smith's motorcycle crossed over onto the offside of the road, colliding with a Vauxhall Vectra travelling in the opposite direction."

Damion worked as a mobile tyre fitter for ATS in Rugeley, a post he had taken up at the beginning of the year having previously been employed at the Crewe branch of Halfords.

He was a former pupil of Shavington High School and had gone straight on to work with his father in Rugeley on completion of his GCSEs.

He had a great interest in motor vehicles, especially motorcycles, and had recently purchased the orange Kawasaki 'Ninja' that he was riding at the time of the collision.

The spokesman added: "Damion was very well known in the area and had many friends of all ages.

"He always had time for other people and was particularly popular with the younger members of his family; frequently taking them out on excursions and always making time to involve himself with them at home.

"He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his family and Emma his long term girlfriend.

"The couple were about to move into their first home together which they had recently purchased."

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have seen the motorcycle being ridden prior to the incident.
