GHOST walks uncovering the haunted heritage of Crewe and Nantwich are proving popular with locals and tourists who have been discovering some strange and inexplicable phenomena.

Since the Crewe walk started last October, joined by the Nantwich walk in February, around 500 people have now taken part in the spooky walks in the town centres.

Tim Prevett who runs the Ghost Walks, said: "I am simply delighted with how the tours have grown.

"I have worked hard on the walks' content, presentation and experience and continue to ask myself as to how I can better them.

"I've had people attend the regular walks on Wednesday evenings from Stone, Stoke, The Wirral, across Cheshire, as well as a good number of interested locals.

"There have been some strange happenings and even photographs from the walks."

Tim says that the most spectacular image has come from a photo in the cellar of The Three Lamps in Crewe which some feel is home to an oppressive, brooding presence.

The photo taken on a phone looking into the cellar shows a face in the doorway.

Tim said: "If you look closely you can see the outline of a gown or robe and something being held across the body, unlike my own publicity shots, there is neither a double exposure nor a manipulation in any way."

As well as the photos, there have been people convinced of either hearing, seeing or feeling paranormal activity with the walk taking in the cellars of The Railway Hotel and Ye Olde Vaults in Nantwich and The Three Lamps in Crewe.

Tim concludes: "Whatever the explanations behind the happenings and pictures, I look forward to introducing more and more people to the hidden and haunted heritage of Crewe and Nantwich."

The Crewe and Nantwich Ghost Walks run alternate Wednesdays in each town year round, starting at 7.30pm.
