Crosfields do the double over Knutsford

6:43pm Thursday 8th May 2008

Crosfields 4 Knutsford 1.

CROSFIELDS beat Knutsford for the second time in five days with a fine 4-1 victory in the Cheshire Soccer League at Hood Lane.

In a game were the Soap men started slowly, with passes going astray and lack of workrate evident, it came as no surprise when spirited Knutsford opened the scoring on the half hour mark via a bizarre own goal.

However, an excellent 20-yard strike from Craig Spurling levelled the scores shortly before half time.

After some harsh words at half time Crosfields came out for the second half like a totally different team, dominating their opponents from the start and scoring three goals in the opening 15 minutes.

First, the excellent duo of Lee Boardman and Stuart Wellstead combined with Boardman putting the finishing touches to a fine move from close range to put Crosfields 2-1 up.

Then the goal of the game came when Saunders, Spurling and Moore combined to put Wellstead through for his first with a cool finish.

Shortly after Wellstead added his second with a fine individual goal.

Earlier in the week, on Monday night, Crosfields came from behind again to beat Knutsford on their own ground with Wellstead netting twice to seal a 2-1 victory.

Crosfields travel to title favourites Styal tonight, Thursday, 6.45pm kick off, before travelling to Poynton on Saturday, 3pm kick off, then finishing their season on Monday at Garswood, 6.45pm kick off.
