Eyes on a double

11:13am Friday 9th May 2008

GREAT Sankey High School could be set for a national double after their year 10 boys' rugby league team reached the final of the Champion Schools tournament.

The school won the year 11 Champions School event in April with a win against Featherstone's St Wilfrids Catholic High School at Odsal, having already clinched the North West Counties Cup.

The year 10 side also won the North West Counties Cup earlier in the year and now they will be gunning for national glory after a 26-6 win against Welsh school Brynteg in the semi finals of the Champion Schools tournament at Hopwood Hall in Rochdale.

That sets up a final clash with Wakefield's Airedale High School at RAF Uxbridge in London on August 29 - the day before the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley.

Former Brynteg pupils Rhys and Ben Evans both crossed for Great Sankey against their old school during the first half of the semi final and, although the Welsh side pulled a try back, further efforts from George Shart, Femme Adeptun and Rob Campbell sealed the victory.
