League and cup success

ALSAGER 1st X1 scored league and cup success at the weekend.

They beat Woore comfortably at home on Saturday in the league, and followed that with Talbot Cup victory against Bignall End.

Alsager batted first against Woore, and posted 198 for nine declared off 57 overs, Paul Pickford top scoring with 58.

Woore were bowled out for only 89 in reply in 42 overs, scoring at just over two runs an over.

Gareth Rowe took three wickets for 30 runs, and Paul Tibbetts claimed three for just four runs.

Alsager beat Bignall End at home on Sunday in the first round of the cup with four overs to spare.

The visitors opened with 157 for seven off their 35 overs, Mughall scoring 65 and Joe Newbould taking three wickets for 31 runs.

Alsager replied with a winning 158 for four, winning by six wickets.

Tibbetts and Paul Pickford shared the batting honours with 33 runs each, and stand in professional Martin Bekker scored 29.

Alsager 2nd X1 travelled to Woore on Saturday, and were unlucky not to come away with a victory from a game they dominated.

They opened with 211 for eight declared off 49 overs.

Toby Kent top scored with an excellent 79, and Andy Molyneux was unbeaten on 29.

The pair put on 98 for the sixth wicket.

Woore replied with 153 for nine, Matthew Nixon taking three wickets for 30, and 14-year-old Alex Johnson picked up two for 33.

Both Alsager teams are second in their respective divisions of Division 3 of the North Staffs and South Cheshire League.

Alsager play Endon this Saturday, the 1st X1 away and the 2nds are at home.
