Pupils dig in to make veg plot

PUPILS at a school in Winsford have gone green with a helping hand from a bank.
Due to the success of Gardening Club, Leeanne Neiland, deputy headteacher at Greenfields Primary School in Whitby's Lane was keen to develop a vegetable garden.
With the help and support of the recently appointed caretaker, Peter Smith, the school has secured a grant of £500 from Barclays' community projects fund to create the garden.
Volunteers from Barclays arrived yesterday morning, Tuesday, to help set it up.
Children are also taking part in growing potatoes with the Potato Council, pumpkins with Cheshire Year of Gardens 2008 and tomato plants with the help of do-it-yourself store B&Q.
They have already made a start in the gardening club by sowing the pumpkin seeds, runner beans and chitting the potatoes.
Mrs Neiland said: "We are all very excited to see the results of our efforts in the summer term."
