Buffie's a star at World's biggest dogshow

A NANTWICH man proved to be top dog at Crufts last week, after scooping a prestigious prize with 13-month-old Irish White and Red Setter, Buffie.

Charles Henderson was proud as punch as Buffie beat off competition from hundreds to secure the coveted, Best Puppy award.

Nearly 23,000 dogs watched by 160,000 people packed into Birmingham's NEC, with the grand prize for Best in Show being won by a giant schnauzer named Philippe.

But a delighted Mr Henderson, was ecstatic with Buffie's success at the Pedigree sponsored event.

He said: "She is named Buffie after the American-Indian musician but everybody thinks it is because of the TV show.

"She beat her brother in the final. As a breed they are a challenge. You need a lot of patience when they are growing up, but they are worth it because they are fantastic dogs.

"She is a wonderful character. I first came here ten years ago so it means everything when you do get a big prize like this.

"It takes a lot of time and commitment to get the dog ready for an event like this but it is a fantastic feeling when you win."

He added: "But the main thing is to enjoy the dog.

"I don't do this for the glory, I do it because I love the dogs."

Pedigree was once again the Principal Sponsor of Crufts, the worlds largest and most prestigious dog show which took place over a four day period last week.
