PROPERTY marking surgeries are being held at Stretford police station each Sunday from 10am-2pm this month.
During the sessions residents can have their prized possessions marked-up' for free and registered on the website immobilise.com MP3 players, mobile phones, laptops and bicycles are among the expensive items received by people in the area over the festive period that are often targeted by thieves said Area Insp Alistair MacDonald, from the Stretford neighbourhood police team.
He explained: "This scheme will help deter criminals from stealing and will help to close the market on the sale of property stolen.
"Every year thousands of pounds worth of stolen property is recovered by police, but a lot of it is never returned to its rightful owners because it cannot be identified as being theirs.
"Recording details of identifiable possessions on a website is quick and easy and increases the likelihood of re-uniting goods with their rightful owners."
He added that as part of the initiative PCSOs will also be visiting Stretford High, Stretford Grammar and Lostock High Schools to offer students the chance to mark-up and register their valuables.
