ONLINE giant Amazon has been announced as the latest big name to move onto Omega in a £30 million deal set to create 2,500 jobs.

Investor LondonMetric has confirmed that the leading e-commerce company has taken occupation of its 357,000 sq ft unit in zone seven of the Omega South site.

Following the 'satisfaction of conditions' relating to the deal, Amazon agreed a 15-year lease with rent reviews linked to the consumer price index.

LondonMetric funded the £30 million scheme following its £47.5 million backing of The Hut Group's 690,000 sq ft Omega South warehouse in 2014 – it was advised by DTRE and JLL.

Andrew Jones, chief executive of LondonMetric, welcomed the move and labelled Omega South as a 'highly successful development'.

Amazon will join other big names – including The Hut Group, Asda, Travis Perkins and Hermes – on Omega.

A source said the deal will create around 2,500 jobs.
