CAMPAIGN group Hope Not Hate (HNH) has mapped out its vision to unite Warrington's communities and build a 'more accepting society'.

The organisation held a meeting at Bold Street Methodist Church in the town centre yesterday, Monday, as part of its #MoreInCommon national campaign.

It comes following the post-EU referendum 'division' but HNH's community organiser Katie Wilkinson is confident of bringing about change.

More than 100 sessions are taking place around the country in response to the 'hatred' after the Brexit vote.

Six residents were present at Monday's event but Ms Wilkinson believes the project will generate a significant reaction from the public in the coming months.

She said: "Following our initial meeting we want to focus on bringing the community together with various events and campaigns.

"The division post-EU referendum is evident and, regardless of what people voted, we would like to take some actions to tackle some of the intolerant discourse that has come into the forefront of the debate.

"We have been discussing many campaigns including planting flower gardens in community areas, food-sharing events and picnic days.

"It takes time to generate large support when you're just beginning a campaign, however, we feel once we start to have events and get out into the community people will hopefully enjoy what we are doing and want to get involved.

"HNH did not take a stand on the referendum and we continue to work with people from both sides, our aim is to focus on building a more accepting and tolerant society regardless of political opinion."
