A 20-YEAR-OLD from Lymm is joining the £5,000 fundraising mission for her disabled half-sister who 'continues to laugh and smile' despite being unable to see, walk or talk.

Megan Davies, six, from Macclesfield, cannot sit unassisted and the low tone in her muscles means her spine is slowly curving.

The NHS is unable to help with the undiagnosed condition until she needs spinal surgery but the family are refusing to give up.

They are hoping to raise £5,000 to enable them to buy Megan a Mollii suit – a new concept which provides tailored rehabilitation in the form of a garment with electrotherapy programmed to specific requirements.

Megan's half-sister Emily Davies, 20, who lives in Lymm, is one of many to have pledged to donate and is stepping up to take part in next year's Yorkshire Half Marathon in aid of the youngster.

Megan's mum, Helen, believes the Mollii suit will strengthen her child's muscles and help teach her how to use them.

She said: "There is no orthotic equipment out there or anything available to slow the impact this is having on Megan down.

"The Mollii suit will slow things down and will be able to stimulate muscles in her back.

"It will work by stimulating them with electric currents which send messages to the brain and will help her use her muscles effectively.

"She needs 24/7 care and can't see, walk, talk or feed herself but she still continues to laugh and show us her lovely smile.

"Seeing her smile is great, her ability to have fun and laugh shows how positive she is.

"We want to do as much as we can to prevent final surgery. The suit is new and not available on the NHS, we want to try it before surgery.

"We hate asking for help but we want to get this as quickly as possible for Megan."

On June 28 the youngster tried on the garment in Wirral and 'responded well'.

More than £1,900 has been raised since the fundraising project was launched two weeks ago.

If the £5,000 target is reached, the family will buy Megan a Mollii suit costing around £3,500 and will also fund one in the next size up, with the remaining money, to allow her to use it for around two years.
