PARENTS and pupils across the town have been warned to expect disruption to classes next week as teachers look set to strike on Tuesday.

St Gregory's High School and Culcheth High School have both confirmed they will be closed on July 5 if the strike action goes ahead.

It is also understood that Grappenhall Heys Primary School will close for the day.

Members of the National Union of Teachers voted overwhelmingly for industrial action in protest against cuts to school funding and changes to teachers' terms and conditions.

In a letter to parents, Culcheth High School head teacher, Chris Hunt, said: "This decision has not been taken lightly and it is regrettable that we have had to make this decision following a recent INSET Day and Activities Week.

"We appreciate that this may seriously inconvenience you and apologise in advance for these circumstances."

Parents are urged to check with their children's school to find out if they will be affected by the industrial action on Tuesday.
