TWO women were left in a distressed state after a man tried to touch them 'inappropriately' during a train journey from Warrington Central to Liverpool Lime Street.

British Transport Police have launched an investigation after two women, who were travelling separately in the same train carriage, were both approached by a man who touched them inappropriately on Wednesday, May 4, at around 7.50pm.

The incident happened on the 7.49pm Northern service from Warrington Central to Liverpool Lime Street.

PC John Thwaite said: “A man boarded the train at Warrington and sat next to one of the women and began to touch her inappropriately.

"He then attempted to touch another woman who was also travelling alone.

"She had to physically fend him off which caught the attention of other passengers.

"They came to the women's aid and ejected the man from the train at Widnes.

“Quite understandably the women were distressed and threatened by the man’s behaviour and were left upset following the incident.”

After reviewing CCTV, officers have issued an image of a man who may have information about the incident.
