A NURSE at Warrington Hospital is taking on three gruelling challenges inspired by a 10-year-old boy who died after battling a rare cancer.

Lois Stewart, a nurse working for Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is taking on challenges including an 85-mile trek around the Isle of Man to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

She has been inspired by 10-year-old Jack Broderick, a Runcorn boy who died after a battle with a rare form of cancer in March.

The 24-year-old said: “Being a nurse I am passionate about continuously promoting better health care.

“Several of my friends have had children with long-term conditions who may need these services for the rest of their lives.

“I am very passionate about raising funds to enable Alder Hey to continue to provide such a fantastic service to our special little people.”

Lois has already completed the 34-mile Sandstone Trail walk from Whitchurch to Frodsham, which she tackled in 11 hours 38 minutes.

She will continue her efforts today, Sunday, by climbing Mount Snowdon with her 10-year-old niece Madison Baker before her biggest challenge yet.

On June 18, Lois will complete the Manx Telecom Parish Walk – an 85-mile 24-hour trek around the Isle of Man’s 17 churches.

Runcorn resident Lois added: “The pressure will be on to walk faster.

“As the terrain was different on the Sandstone Trail the miles just passed by although I was really struggling and shattered at the end.

“The Parish Walk is all on the road and you don’t sleep – as you get more tired it will be hard to keep up your pace.”
