CHESHIRE Fire Cadets cleaned up competitors at the Pretty Muddy 5k race on Saturday, May 7, by hosing off mud for a small donation.

The cadets also handed out water to runners and cheered them across the finish line.

They are trying to raise more than £70,000 to build a school for villagers in Nepal and thanks to the generosity of muddy runners they collected £347.67 towards their goal.

Nine volunteer leaders and 16 Cheshire Fire Cadets will fly to Nepal next autumn with the charity, ‘Classrooms in the Clouds’, to see the school be built.

They will help decorate the six classroom school before presenting it to the community in the Basa region of Nepal.

Currently 71.6 per cent of males and 44.5 per cent of females in the region do not have any form of education, so the project will make a real difference to children’s lives and future generations.
