WARRINGTON Borough Council has backed the end of Warrington Wolves’ sponsorship deal with Truvape as the club’s e-cigarettes ban comes into force.

The club announced in February that its 18-month sponsorship deal with the e-cigarette company would be terminated after what it called a ‘successful partnership’ that saw Truvape sponsor the South Stand at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Vaping is now been banned at the stadium after the deal ended on May 1 and the clash with Leeds Rhinos on May 27 will be the venue’s first smoke-free game.

The council’s director of public health Dr Muna Abdel-Aziz has supported the decision.

She said: “We are fully supportive of the Wolves’ healthy stadia status which it achieved last year and are delighted that the Halliwell Jones Stadium is to become a completely smoke-free environment.”

The club was awarded the healthy stadia status for contributing to the improvement of public health in Warrington.

When the deal was terminated Warrington Wolves chief executive Roger Draper said: “We have very much enjoyed working with Truvape over the last 18 months and wish them every success for the future.

“This is a really exciting time for Warrington Wolves as we look to the future and implementing a new commercial strategy, working with new and existing partners as well as expanding on our healthy stadia policy to take the club to new heights.”
