A CARE home for young adults with learning difficulties has received a rating of good after an inspection by the Care Quality Commission.

Marlcroft on Warrington Road in Risley was praised for its ‘sensitive and compassionate’ care after its first inspection by the CQC.

Their unannounced visit by one adult social care inspector took place on November 20 and December 2 and resulted in a rating of good.

The Community Care Matters-run home provides care for three young adults with learning difficulties.

The CQC’s report said: “We found that people were provided with care that was safe, person-centred, sensitive and compassionate.

“The staff worked together as a cohesive team with the benefit of having shared aims and objectives.

“We could see each person received care and support tailored to their individual needs, personal preferences and wishes.

“Whilst we were unable to communicate with them directly because of communication difficulties, we were able to observe their interactions with staff who had developed effective methods of communication with them.

“We could see that the people who lived at the home were happy and content – they had positive relationships with the staff, with whom they shared a rapport and interactions often resulted in smiles and laughter.

“Relatives spoken with praised the registered manager for the quality of care provided – they told us that they had every confidence that their relatives were safe and protected from harm.

The three residents previously lived together in another home operated by the company and moved to Marlcroft together when it closed.

One family members told the inspector that they ‘could have cried with happiness’ at the progress their relative had made while in the home.

They said: “Our relative is definitely safe – I could not wish for a better environment for them.

“I was so happy to see how they had developed I could have cried with happiness – they have blossomed.

“All the staff are brilliant – they know what they are doing and nothing is too much trouble for them.”
