WARRINGTON Wolves prop forward Mitchell Dodds suffered a double leg break in this evening's 30-20 win against Catalans Dragons in France.
Wolves head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith confirmed a broken tibia at the press conference and x-rays at hospital in Perpignan have revealed the 26-year-old former Brisbane Broncos front rower has broken the fibula too.
He will have an operation tomorrow morning.
It's a sickening blow for the Wolves camp after a hard-earned win at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.
Dodds, playing only his second Super League game after recovering from a broken wrist suffered during his 2015 campaign in Australia, had only been on the field a few minutes.
He came off the bench and was helping The Wire to defend their own line in the closing stages of the first half when his left leg smashed into the leg of a marauding Catalans player.
It is the second serious injury in two weeks for Wolves, who lost the services of Gary Wheeler in the late win at Salford last week. Wheeler has since had an Achilles operation.
Despite losing the services of Dodds, Wolves came from 20-12 behind to maintain their unbeaten start to 2016.
Tries in the last three minutes from George King and Chris Sandow, who kicked the winning field goal on the hooter at Salford, took Wolves back to second in the Super League table.
