NEW Crewe and Nantwich Mayor Maurice Jones lent his support to the HMS Ambuscade Association's reunion at the weekend.

The Association aims to keep the name of the ship alive and to remain in contact with everyone who either served on HMS Ambuscade or was affiliated with the ship which was part of the fleet that served in the Falklands War during the 1980s.

Scores of people turned up for Saturday's events, which included a a celebration dinner in the evening and a fire engine pull at lunchtime.

The engine pull took place at midday at the Crewe Alexandra stadium on Gresty Road.

Five teams of ten took part with proceeds from the event being split between the HMS Ambuscade Association and a number of smaller local charities for the Mayor's charity.

Cllr Jones said: "I'm pleased to be supporting HMS Ambuscade's fourth reunion.

"There is a strong connection between Crewe and the ship and I'm proud to be supporting the Association."

The Mayor also took part in an inspection of the Ambuscade sea cadets followed by a prize-giving ceremony.
