VOLUNTEERS are needed to sit on police misconduct panels.

Around 20 people are required to take part in meetings which will be held across Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cumbria and Lancashire.

Police and crime commissioner for Cheshire John Dwyer said assistance was needed to make 'a fair and evidence-based judgement about a particular officer’s conduct and agreeing an appropriate sanction'.

He added: "The appointments aim to reassure the community that misconduct matters are investigated, and proceedings are adjudicated properly.”

The appointment as an independent member is initially for five years with a full review at the end of that period.

Applicants must be over 18 and live in the north west.

They cannot be a serving or retired member of the force.

A daily allowance of £200 is payable as well as expenses.

The closing date for applications is January 27.
