RESIDENTS will be given the chance to shape the future of libraries in the town as LiveWire prepares to conduct its biggest survey to date.

The organisation's 33,000 library users, people who haven't used a library for more than a year and those who've never used one of Warrington's libraries before are being encouraged to give their views on how to bring the town's 11 libraries into the 21st century.

Results will be used to develop new activities at Warrington Library, which is set to expand into the heart of the town centre, as well as Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub, which will provide Warrington's first ever smart library when it opens in late 2016.

The survey will also help LiveWire determine how to improve its offer and digital services at other libraries across the town.

Each one is set to have free Wi-fi installed thanks to funding from Arts Council England and the Department of Culture, Media & Sport.

Warrington libraries last asked people for their views on the service in 2002 and this is the first library survey that is available for people to fill out on paper and online.

Library staff will offer support to help people access the digital version of survey and teams will also be taking the survey out into different communities to engage with non-users.

People who complete the survey will be entered into a free prize draw to win £100 worth of shopping vouchers to spend at Golden Square.

The survey will run for six weeks, from Friday, December 4, until January 15 and the results will be published in late January.

Tina Redford, strategic lead for libraries and learning, said: "As we look to expand our offer into different venues across the town, it's important that Warrington residents are given the chance to have their say on how they would like to use libraries in the future.

"We also have a number of opportunities to improve our digital offer for library visitors so it's important that we are providing services that can really benefit our communities."
