THE family of a woman who died of cancer aged 30 are still working to ensure others do not suffer her fate.
Derek Shields' stepdaughter Nicola Penketh died last year after she was deprived of Tarceva, a drug they believe would have saved her.
I think Nicky’s story touched people and I would like to thank everyone who has supported us.

Her family set up a trust to help others in her situation and have raised money over the past year. They have been amazed at the support for the Nicky Penketh Trust.
"Nicky was very popular so there are a lot of people in Winsford who wanted to get involved and help us," said Derek.
"What has surprised me is the number of people who didn't know Nicky and wanted to get involved.
"I think Nicky's story touched people and I would like to thank everyone who has supported us. It has been very emotional for us." Nicola, of Caernarvon Avenue in Winsford, was a non smoker, but fell ill in 2004.
She was eventually diagnosed with lung cancer after a tumour was found on her brain.
Her family fought to get Tarceva, but were told by North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary that it could not afford the £12,000 a year needed.
When Nicola did receive the drug it was too late and she died a week later in March last year. Derek said last week he was disappointed the NHS had not changed the way it decides who can receive treatment.
"The extra money that has gone into the health service has gone into salaries rather than avoiding situations like Nicky's," said Derek.
"They are still making cash-based decisions rather than need based decisions and that is why we feel what we are doing is so important."
